Day 1: Arrival in Fes

Arrival in Fes

Arrival at Fes airport where your private driver welcomes you and transfers you to your traditional riad located in the historic medina.

Fes is considered the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco and is home to one of the oldest medieval cities in the world.

Depending on arrival time you may enjoy a first orientation walk through the nearby streets of the medina, where artisans produce traditional handicrafts such as ceramics, leather and carpets.

Guided Cultural Tour of Fes

Today you explore the fascinating historic medina of Fes with a professional local guide.

The medina of Fes is one of the largest medieval cities in the world and contains thousands of narrow streets, lively markets and traditional workshops.

Highlights include:

  • Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • Al Quaraouiyine University, considered the oldest continuously operating university in the world

  • Chouara Tannery, where leather is dyed using traditional techniques that have remained unchanged for centuries

You will also discover colourful souks selling spices, carpets, copper, leather and handmade crafts.

Fes → Ifrane → Merzouga

After breakfast begin a scenic journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains.

The first stop is the charming mountain town of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine-style architecture and cool climate.

Continue through the cedar forests near Azrou where you may see wild Barbary macaque monkeys.

The landscape gradually changes as you travel through the Ziz Valley, famous for its vast palm groves and oasis villages.

Arrival in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert.

In the late afternoon enjoy a camel ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi to reach your desert camp.

Merzouga Desert Exploration

Wake early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Sahara dunes.

After breakfast explore the fascinating desert region surrounding Merzouga.

Highlights include:

  • Visiting traditional nomadic Berber families living in desert tents

  • Discovering fossil areas near Erfoud, famous for ancient marine fossils

  • Visiting the village of Khamlia, known for its unique Gnawa music and African heritage

You may also enjoy optional activities such as sandboarding, quad biking or relaxing at the hotel pool.

Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

After breakfast depart toward the spectacular Todra Gorge.

This impressive canyon is one of Morocco’s most famous natural sites with cliffs rising more than 300 meters high, creating a dramatic landscape popular with climbers and photographers.

Enjoy a walk through the gorge along the small river before continuing to the beautiful Dades Valley.

The valley is known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs” and features unusual rock formations and traditional Berber villages.

Dades → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

Today travel along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco”.

Continue to the famous fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has appeared in many international films and TV series.

After visiting the kasbah, cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking views of mountain landscapes and traditional Berber villages.

Arrival in Marrakech in the evening.

Marrakech City Tour

Today explore the vibrant imperial city of Marrakech with a local guide.

Highlights include:

  • Koutoubia Mosque

  • Jemaa el-Fnaa

Jemaa el-Fnaa is the lively heart of Marrakech filled with storytellers, musicians, street performers and food stalls.

Explore the colourful souks where artisans sell carpets, spices, lanterns and traditional Moroccan crafts.

Marrakech → Essaouira

After breakfast drive west to the Atlantic coast.

Essaouira is a charming seaside town known for its historic Portuguese walls, relaxed atmosphere and artistic culture.

Explore:

  • The historic medina and fortified walls

  • The lively fishing harbour

  • Long sandy beaches

Enjoy fresh seafood at a local restaurant near the harbour.

Essaouira → Casablanca

Today travel along the Atlantic coast toward Casablanca.

On arrival you may visit the spectacular Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most impressive mosques in the world, beautifully located above the Atlantic Ocean.

Transfer to the airport or hotel.
