The journey then leads through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Desert, where you will ride camels across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and spend a magical night in a desert camp. Travel through the spectacular valleys and kasbahs of southern Morocco before reaching the lively imperial city of Marrakech and the charming Atlantic port of Essaouira, finishing your adventure in Casablanca.

Day 1: Arrival in Tangier

Arrival in Tangier

Arrival at Tangier port or airport where your driver from Morocco Travel Igoudan welcomes you.

Tangier has long been a meeting point between Europe and Africa and has inspired many writers and artists.

Depending on arrival time we explore the city including:

  • Kasbah Museum in the old fortress overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar

  • Cap Spartel where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea

  • Caves of Hercules, a famous natural cave connected to Greek mythology

Enjoy your first Moroccan dinner in the lively medina.

Tangier → Chefchaouen

After breakfast departure south into the beautiful Rif Mountains. The scenic road passes through small villages and green landscapes before reaching the famous blue town of Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen is known for its blue-painted houses and relaxed mountain atmosphere.

Highlights:

  • Walk through the picturesque blue medina

  • Visit Plaza Uta el-Hammam

  • Explore small artisan shops selling traditional textiles and handicrafts

Enjoy sunset views from the Spanish Mosque above the town.

Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Fes

After breakfast drive through fertile countryside toward the ancient Roman site of Volubilis. Volubilis is the best preserved Roman archaeological site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Here you can see:

  • Beautiful Roman mosaics

  • Ancient temples

  • Roman triumphal arches

Continue toward the imperial city of Fes. Arrival in Fes in the afternoon.

Guided Cultural Tour of Fes

Today you discover the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco with a local guide.

The medina of Fes is one of the largest medieval cities in the world and has more than 9,000 narrow streets.

Highlights include:

  • Fes el-Bali

  • Al Quaraouiyine University, the oldest university in the world

  • Chouara Tannery where leather is still dyed using traditional methods

Fes → Ifrane → Merzouga

Today is a scenic journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains.

First stop in Ifrane, a charming alpine-style town often called the “Switzerland of Morocco”.

Continue through the cedar forests of Azrou where you may see wild Barbary monkeys.

The road continues through:

  • Ziz Valley with its thousands of palm trees

  • Traditional Berber villages

  • Rocky desert landscapes

Arrival in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert.

Camel ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

Wake early to enjoy a magical sunrise over the Sahara dunes.

After breakfast drive toward the spectacular Todra Gorge.

Todra Gorge is one of the most impressive canyons in Morocco with cliffs reaching 300 meters high.

Enjoy a short walk through the canyon before continuing to the beautiful Dades Valley, famous for its kasbahs and dramatic rock formations.

Dades → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

Drive along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

Stop in Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film capital.

Visit the famous fortified village Ait Ben Haddou, used as filming location for many international movies.

Continue across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

Marrakech City Tour
